The annual Pensacola Seafood Festival takes over Seville Square, Fountain Park and waterfront Bartram Park in Historic Downtown Pensacola each fall, attracting more than 100,000 attendees during the three-day event that takes place the last weekend in September.

From fried mullet – a local delicacy - to our world-famous shrimp and grits, Pensacola's seafood is some of the best in the world. Not only is it fresh from the Gulf, but it also has the benefit of the area’s wide range of culinary influences, from traditional southern and Cajun to the area’s French and Spanish flavors to the international flair brought to the area by our globe-trotting military population. And we don’t mind mashing them up for the perfect, unexpected culture combination that leaves the mouth both speechless and watering.

At the festival, you'll find local seafood favorites prepared in a variety of ways by our top restaurants, live cooking demonstrations, traditional festival fare from the nation’s top vendors, arts and crafts vendors and live music.

The Fiesta Seafood Grill, presented by Pensacola Energy, features cooking demonstrations by local celebrity chefs. Visitors can stop by Fountain Park to hear their cooking secrets as they prepare their favorite cuisine with an emphasis on fresh, local seafood.

The Pensacola Seafood Festival is also one of the largest arts and crafts fairs in Northwest Florida, with more than 130 vendors. Live musical performances by local and regional acts will be held throughout the family-friendly weekend. Admission to the festival is free.

Additionally, the Children's Area, located in Bartram Park, will feature fun activities for children of all ages to enjoy including arts and crafts, Water Walkers and face painting. Kids can learn more about our Gulf environment through the festival’s marine life educational program.  With the help of local educators and Gulf Specimen Marine Laboratory, the Seafood Festival will offer a variety of free touch pools for children and families to experience live sea creatures for the ultimate hands-on experience.

So if you are a fish fanatic, crab crazy or enjoy shrimp any way they can make it, plan your fall trip to the Pensacola Seafood Festival and get more than a bellyful of the best of the gulf coast’s seafood in one easy stop.

18th Annual Geckofest @ Gulfport, FL

Gulfport’s 18th annual GeckoFest promises a full day of free family-friendly fun on Saturday, September 1ST from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.

The streets of the waterfront village will be filled with live music on two stages, hundreds of food, art and craft vendors, kids’ activities, and up close and personal street performances by a bevy of acrobats, magicians, daredevils, dancers, aerialists, escape artists, fire eaters, balloon artists and costumed characters. GeckoFest is located along Beach and Shore Boulevards in the heart of Gulfport.

The theme for this year’s festival is “GeckoCon” – A celebration of superheroes, villains, cult characters, imaginary locations and more from comics, books, movies, tv shows, animé and other media in pop culture genres akin to the world of popular Comic Con conventions around the world.

GeckoFest ends on a high note each year with its ever-popular, high-energy street dances at both stages starting at 8:00.

GeckoFest’s strolling and stationary street performers bring fun, thrills and a circus atmosphere to the village with a chance to get close to the action.

Entertainers will make you laugh, gasp and applaud. Step right up and participate in a magic trick. Witness extreme stunts happening just a few feet away. Tie up an escape artist and watch him maneuver out of his bonds. Pose for photos with your favorite characters. Take home your own free, fanciful balloon creation.

This year’s street performers include past favorites and brand new ones.

Jugglers, magicians, acrobats, face painters, dancers and aerialists will be on hand throughout the festival area.

Favorite costumed characters will be roving the village ready to pose for your photos.

Parking for GeckoFest is free.

Free shuttles also offer visitors an opportunity to park in off-site locations for transportation to and from their vehicle and the festival site. For more information on GeckoFest, directions and parking go to our Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/GeckoFest. GeckoFest offers a fun-filled opportunity to explore quirky Gulfport, a wonderful slice of “Old Florida,” on one of its most colorful days of the year.

GeckoFest is preceded each year by the Gecko Art Show, Gecko Crawl and Gecko Ball.

How Did We Get So Lucky To Have Sponge Docks?

First, in 1887 the railroad service to New York began and created a boom for Tarpon Springs. The gorgeous Victorian Mansions you see around the Bayous were built by wealthy people who came to visit and fell in love with the area. In due time, they helped establish churches, schools, businesses, and hotels (so that more wealthy tourists could visit and fall in love).

Secondly, Lots of Sponges grew in the waters around Tarpon Springs; a huge sponge industry developed when the Greek divers came. At the same time, the Greek families opened shops and restaurants, pastry shops and markets.

Blessing of the Inlet

The Blessing of the Inlet at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, Highway 17-Business, Murrells Inlet, will celebrate its 22nd anniversary as one of the Inlet’s most revered festivals.

The Blessing of the Inlet was first started 22 years ago to create a festival filled with worship, food, fun, and fellowship that was highlighted by a ‘Blessing’ ceremony, celebrating our Lord’s continued blessings in the Inlet Community. And the Blessing of the Inlet was to generate funds for many missions, charities, and nonprofit organizations.

The festival has grown to include a day of entertainment, more than 100 arts and crafts vendors, various Murrells Inlet restaurants and local food purveyors, children’s play area with inflatables, pony rides and fun events. This year the festival will also include competitive game activities for adults and youth. All festival attendees are encouraged to stop by the events and ‘cheer on’ the contestants.

This festival is highlighted by the Blessing of the Inlet ceremony which starts at 11:30 AM. The Blessing will be administered by the Reverend Dr. Mike Alexander and the Reverend Walter Cantwell. Immediately following the “Blessing” ceremony, all visitors will be invited to “Stay to Pray” in the Belin sanctuary. Belin’s Stephen Ministers will be on hand.

The festival is a free event with no admission or parking charge and is always held rain or shine. Free shuttle rides to and from the Blessing will pick up and drop off from behind the Inlet Square Mall and run from 8:30 am until 4 pm. Festival participants are encouraged to take advantage of free and ample parking at the mall and a fun-filled bus ride with a live informative tour guide.

Everyone is invited to come help us celebrate the Glory of God and all He has ‘blessed’ us with.
